Travel Tips
- Book your trip as early as possible.
The earlier you book your flight and accommodations, the easier it is to do.
Always look for non-stop flights when at all possible.
- Be sure to have your travel documents in order.
- Keep copies of your travel information in a safe place.
- Map your trip as much as possible before you leaving for the island.
- Budget your expenses and a day by day or week by week schedule.
- Carry all essentials in your hand luggage.
- Travel light. Cleaning and laundry services
are available everywhere and replacements can be purchased for most items
at a reasonable cost. Try to pack everything into one suitcase and a
carry-on bag. Remember that there may not be a porter available and new
purchases will add to the original weight.
- Take travel-size toiletries instead of full bottles.
- A suitcase with wheels or a baggage trolley is essential.
- Put your name, address, and telephone number on the inside as well as
the outside of every piece of luggage.
- Make sure you have enough money to cover emergencies. Always include
extra money in your budget for unforeseen circumstances.
- Carry only as much money as you need for the day, when at all possible
use travelers checks.
- Write down charge-card numbers and
phone numbers for reporting any loss of cards. The same goes for
traveler's checks and your airline ticket.
- Choose luggage that is lightweight, roomy, easy to carry, yet durable
enough to withstand rough treatment.
- Avoid traveling during peak holiday periods. (Fares are higher during
holiday seasons).
- Dress comfortably.
- Keep keys to your home and vehicle separate.
Health
- Check the immunization requirements of the country you are visiting.
- Always carry copies of your health records.
- Carry a simple first aid kit with you (pain killers, antiseptic,
anti-diarrhea medication, and insect repellent.)
- To avoid jet lag syndrome, try to maintain a normal routine.
Traveling with Kids
- Take several toys and games with you.
- Always carry snacks and drinks with you.
- Carry a spare change of clothes for the baby and yourself.
- Teach your children how to find the proper authorities should
they wander away from you.
Senior Citizens
- Always remember to ask if there is a senior discount.
- Carry a full supply of all your medicines and any medication you
might need.
- Carry copies of your prescription with you.
