Arecibo Lighthouse and Historical Park

Built in 1898 by the Spaniards, the lighthouse still in use and was automated in 1964. In the premises, you'll find a museum with exhibits, a recreation area featuring a special area for children with replicas of ancient sailing ships and a pirate's island, a restaurant and sports facilities. Open Tue-Fri 9am-6pm, Sat-Sun 10am-7pm. Admissions: Adults $9, Children $7 and Parking $2. Reservation required for groups.

Arecibo Observatory
|
|
|
The Arecibo Observatory is the world's largest radio/radar telescope. The observatory was developed by the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center and it is operated by Cornell University under a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation. Scientists from all parts of the world come to this national observatory to carry out research projects. Open to the public for self-guided tours. Adults: $4, Children: $2. Open Wednesday through Friday from 12pm to 4pm and Saturdays and Sunday from 9am to 4pm.

Asilo de Beneficencia
|
|
|
The Asilo de Beneficencia ("Home for the Poor") was built 1840s for the indigent people. Today it houses the administrative offices of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, with several changing exhibition galleries and an interesting room filled with pre-Columbian artifacts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm, charging $1 admission.

Located just one block from the La Fortaleza (the Governor's Mansion), Barrachina is the largest and oldest store of its kind in Puerto Rico. Bayamon City Hall
|
|
|
Bayamon's eight story building, city hall spans five lanes of highway. Built in 1978 of concrete, glass, and lemon-yellow steel I-beams is the only suspended building of its kind in the Caribbean and is believed to be the only one of its class around the world. The building has a bridge that connects people from one side of it to the other.

Biblioteca Carnegie

|
The Carnegie Library started its construction in 1914. The governor Arthur Yager obtained a contribution of $100,000 from Andrew Carnegie for the construction of a public library in San Juan. Recently restored and refurbished (1995), this public library boasts a state-of-the-art computer room and excellent educational services. Open Monday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm., and Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00am to 9:00pm.
